It is a very old carbonaceous rock of organic origin (mostly a carbon) but it also contains a lot of other elements like sulfur, oxygen and nitrogen, and also different metals such as vanadium, nickel, molybdenum, copper, tungsten and some others. Scientists estimate Shungite's age to be almost 2 billion years. It is made up of ancient layers of the Earth's crust that were formed PRE carbon life forms on the Earth!
